A Greater Sublime, CCA Santa Fe, 2018-19
One painter and eight poets collaborate in an investigation of emotive responses to our world. Shelley Horton-Trippe continues her experiment in color, texture and energy as she listens and paints to the poems of 8 nationally and internationally acclaimed poets. The poets include Will Alexander, Sherwin Bitsui, Jon Davis, Jennifer Foerster, Richard Greenfield, Sonja Kravanja, Catherine Meng and Ken White. These 8 poets will share their words with us in a series of 3 poetry readings surrounded by the current experiments in paint.
SHELLEY HORTON-TRIPPE left for Paris after graduate school to study video with Nam June Paik. In 1979, she moved to Santa Fe and began working in a variety of mediums and exhibiting widely from The Venice Biennale, The Salon d’Autumne in Paris to The Fringe in Edinburgh. She has received 5 National Endowment for the Arts Grants and numerous other awards. Nearly two decades ago, she began collaborating with poets in her cross-sensing body of work, The Poem/Paintings. CCA presents this project’s next configuration, A GREATER SUBLIME, with 8 award-winning poets from around the U.S.. In this multi-disciplinary experiment she invites the viewer to enter into the world of the poet, the painter, and the synesthete.
